narrative maps

While all maps tell a story, another line of SLAB’s inquiry is the development of narrative maps. We are currently experimenting with incorporating a narrator’s voice into the map through spoken and written words, and using linear and non-linear narratives. How words interface with still, changing, and moving images opens up new dimensions for mapping space. The map project shown here will unfold to show how neighbors negotiated the alley and sidewalk over a ten year period to allow vendors to make a living.
