public space maps

Because of its humble properties, sidewalks are easily overlooked. So we developed a pocheed map in which sidewalks, instead of buildings or roads, are the subject. It helps us to appreciate the extensiveness of the system, reaching throughout the city, especially if one considers that in the case of Ho Chi Minh City, nearly every sidewalk is occupied with multiple uses and negotiations. Getting to this map was labor intensive but now we would like to manipulate it further in exploring the system’s qualities and potential as an important public space.
